There is excitement in the air as Christmas approaches and we look forward, with anticipation, to this very special time of the year. The celebration of Jesus’ birth over 2000 years ago in a manger in Bethlehem has certainly had an enormous impact on the world!

At this time of the year we also look forward to spending extra time with family and visiting with friends. It is the gifts that do not come in wrapping paper that are often the most special.

The Christmas season is rapidly approaching! Only 9 more school days and teachers and students will receive a well deserved break for 16 days before beginning the push toward June of 2009.

Students will be dismissed for Christmas Holidays on December 19th at 12:05 PM.   Classes will begin after Christmas on Monday, January 5th, 2009.  It will be Day 8 on the schedule.

Provincial Softball

Congratulations to our Senior Girl’s Softball team, who traveled to St. Mary’s, to compete in the 3A Provincial tournament.  The girl’s played really well and with this success captured the “3A” Provincial Girl’s Softball Banner.  This is a first for our school.  Thanks to all the fans that showed their support for the team by participating in a motorcade for the girls.

Provincial Volleyball

Congratulations to our Senior Boy’s Volleyball team who won, for the second year, the Senior Boy’s “3A” Volleyball Provincial Tournament which was hosted here at JMOC.  This is a first for our school, winning a Provincial Banner on “home turf”, thanks to all the fans for showing up to cheer on our team.

Christmas Concert

 singingbear

Our annual Christmas concert will be taking place tonight, December 10th starting at 7 PM.  Christmas carols and songs will be performed by the students of JMOC.  Cost is $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for students.  All proceeds will be put towards our music program.  Canteen services will be provided during intermission.

Food Drive

Once again our Student Council will be participating in our annual Christmas Food Drive; we are asking that students bring in at least one non-perishable food item. This is a very worthwhile cause in which everyone is a winner and exemplifies what the Christmas spirit is all about. Thanks to everyone for their support.

Christmas Party

Some of our homeroom classes will be holding Christmas parties. They will be taking place on Thursday morning, December 18th.

As well we will also have Santa Hat Day on December 18th.

Snowball Dance

Student Council will be holding the annual Christmas Snowball Dance on Thursday, December 11th from 8 PM to 11:00 PM.  Tickets are currently being sold; the cost is $4.00 single and $7.00 double. At the door the cost is $5.00 single and $8.00 double.  Any outside guest must be signed in by noon on December 11th and must be 18 years or younger.  Snacks will be provided at the dance.  Jeans are not permitted (blue or black). Students must be dressed in semi-formal attire.

Annual Christmas Awards Assembly

The time for our annual Awards Assembly is rapidly approaching; the Awards Assembly will take place on Thursday, December 18th starting at 1 PM.  It is important that we take the time each year to recognize our students for their academic achievement, improvement and conduct.

On behalf of the staff and students of J.M. Olds Collegiate I would like to take this opportunity to thank the various individuals, groups and organizations for their support of the various scholarships and awards that are presented.  Without your unselfish support we would not be able to recognize accomplishments to the extent that we do.

Parent-Teacher Night

I would also like to acknowledge all parents/guardians who attended the recent Parent-Teacher Conferences. The high parent turnout certainly signifies a significant degree of cooperation and concern between the home and school. That is certainly something we are pleased with.

I would also, at this time, like to congratulate the students of J.M. Olds Collegiate for a job well done.  Keep up the good work!

best wishes
